Citizen of the Year Award - Kris Kliensmith When we find a passion in life that brings us satisfaction and accomplishment, it also measures who we are by the impact one has on others. At a young age, Kris Kliensmith began cheerleading for the Pinellas Park T Birds. Many nights were spent at Davis Field practicing and cheering on teams. She later became a cheerleader for Pinellas High School Patriots. Her love for the sport of cheerleading did not end at High School. Graduating in 1988, she returned to the Pinellas Park T Birds to give back to her community. Thus began a long affiliation with the T Birds, first as a cheerleading coach and then into various elected positions on the Board. Kris has work endlessly to help keep the standards of the Pinellas Park T Birds first class. Her rules while coaching the cheerleaders were fairly simple, if not stringent: show up for practice and games, be a good sport, do the best you can, and have fun doing it. She is an inspiration and role model to the many girls who have participated in the T Bird organization. She taught them that rewards come with hard work and dedication, that there is no "I" in team, and that many life long friendships are built from participating in organized cheerleading. To the parents, other T Bird Board members, and affiliated sports league, Kris is a true leader and role model. She gives countless dedicated hours to share her passion for her community in Pinellas Park. |
